Description

Festas de Nossa Senhora d'Agonia, Viana do Castelo, Portugal

This girl is wearing traditional clothes from the north of Portugal, more precisely of the district of Viana do Castelo. One wearing this is often called "Lavradeira".

It also has a reasonable amount of gold in her neck, but comparing to other girls/women, it is almost nothing. After all, the "dress" she is using was destined to common peasants in a not-so-distant past. The wealthy girls dressed differently and in this festivities, carry even more gold...

the image isn't as crisp as I would like, but since I was using very wide apertures to reduce the depth of field and to single-out the "main character" (leaving a naturally blurred-out background - and not blur it in post-processing), my camera had a hard time focusing and because the "models" didn't stop, they were constantly coming out of focus. (I don't know if I made myself clear, but...anyway...)

any questions and comments welcome.

I agree with what you said there is a variety and difference from place to place.. example in Madeira, it is very different to the rest of Portugal ..
